MCGREGOR, TX (September 2, 2017) — TFNB Your Bank for Life announced today that its 19th Charity Champion is The Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, the first winner for the 2017 season.
In 2016, The Shepherd’s Heart distributed 1.4 million pounds of food to nearly 29,000 families in Central Texas. Since the nonprofit was founded in 2010, it has assisted over 200,000 families and distributed nine million pounds.
The Shepherd’s Heart is seeking support to secure several upgrades:
- Replace light fixtures in its facility at an estimated cost of $6,000
- New or gently used delivery truck with a lift gate at an approximate cost of $20,000 to $25,000
- Three new computers
- Increase our food distribution days, it will take more money to buy more food, but the needs are great and continually growing, especially with the impact of hurricane Harvey.
Along with the on-field presentation at the Liberty vs. Baylor game on September 2, 2017 and a Baylor basketball game next year, TFNB is funding a marketing campaign to raise awareness about The Shepherd’s Heart. The Shepherd’s Heart staff, leadership team and board of directors will also be invited to participate in leadership development provided by 360 Solutions starting in 2018.
“Our greatest desire as a Charity Champion is to become effective in elevating people through education and empowerment to help them overcome the ‘poverty mindset’ and change the future of their family for generations to come,” said Bob Gager, executive director of The Shepherd’s Heart. “Our desire is to increase the service we provide by finding ways to increase our capacity and have the pantry open more days of the week.”
